#GivingTuesday – Charities, are you ready?

#GivingTuesday follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Two days for shopping and one day for investing in community.

Is your social media plan in place, have you got your Twitter audience primed? How about your Facebook? Is it chock full of reasons for me to choose to give to you? Can I give directly from there?

Next week on #GivingTuesday, what will I find when I visit your website?

  • Is it well laid out, easy to navigate, easy to donate or volunteer?
  • Is your site optimized so I can find it with a search on the topics near and dear to my heart?
  • Do you have automatic responses, receipting and thank yous?
  • Will the experience give me reason to come back?

If you can’t say yes to all of the questions above it’s time to ask yourself why not? You have to plan to succeed. You have to prepare for it.

What’s holding your organization back? Is it a fear of #overhead, of spending smart money, to raise even more money that will make a real difference.

If I choose to donate to your organization use your resources to make sure I understand exactly what you are doing, what you need from me and make me want to come back again. I want to get to know more about you and the work you do, in fact why not make me an ambassador for your cause? I just need the tools.

Good planning doesn’t cost a lot. A well thought out and executed digital strategy will help you reach and expand your audiences. We are waiting to hear from you.

You have the lives, facts and people who can help you to tell them. Use them to get the word out in video  and  in stories. Tweet links, showcase them on your Facebook.  Give me  infographics, tell me succinctly where my money is going and show me some people whose lives will be different because I care. Ask me to help. That’s why I am on your site.

If your organization does not have the tools or skill sets or more importantly time to prepare and implement a digital strategy get the help you need. Share your strengths — the work you do on the front line, the people you help, the lives you change. Buy your weaknesses, get help where you need it. It will make a difference in how you do business, raise your visibility and improve how you are perceived in the community.

This year, and next and every day in between #GivingTuesday, make sure your website explodes with reasons to give. Make #GivingTuesday an incentive  to build a powerful and sustainable marketing tool kit.

Charities think about it, #GivingTuesday is your chance charities to make a lot of noise, why wouldn’t you use it?
