Getting Started with Facebook Pages

Businesses are seeing tremendous potential in the platform. However, it can be difficult to know where to start with Facebook. Setting up a Page for your business is easy, but what comes next? Here are a few secrets to getting the most out of your business Facebook Page. 

Complete ALL Sections

When you set up a business or organization Page on Facebook, you will have the opportunity to complete all kinds of information about your business. Make sure you complete as much of the information as possible – including a solid description, web site, and location and hours of operation information (if applicable to your business). The more information you complete, the easier it will be for visitors to your Page to learn about what you do.

Add Photos and Videos

Facebook is a very visual platform. Studies have shown that Facebook users interact with content like photos and videos more than regular text content. So spice up your page by adding some relevant photos, or seek out video content that might be interesting to your audience.

How Often Should You Post?

This is one of the questions I get asked most often. You should post often enough that people know there is someone home on your Page, but not so often that people want to block you from their stream. Once or twice a day is a good rule of thumb, but if your time is at a premium, you could scale that back to once a day or every other day.

Experiment with Ads

Facebook ads are a very cost effective way to get more people to engage with your content. If your Page is new, you may want to pay to promote your Page so it shows up in more people’s timelines and encourages them to “Like” your Page. This will help grow your readership and if your content is compelling enough, people will stick around. You can also promote specific posts on your Page, so that they will show up in your readers’ streams more often. And ads can be targeted by demographic, geography, and topic, so you can really streamline your efforts.
